Short hair, long hair?Just be yourself

A matter of hair

Is long hair a good idea as you age or is short hair a safer and better choice? Same dilemma with hair color: should we go grey, white or colored?

In general, French women are encouraged by stylists and magazines to have short hair and to keep it short. It is especially recommended as women age since their hair becomes drier, more brittle and does not grow as fast. A short cut will add volume and hair treatment will be easier.  Shorter hair requires also more regular visit to the Hair Salon. Mid-length hair is a good alternative of convenience, of possibilities of styles and of less visits to the hairdresser.

Americans favor any style, any lengths and even any color – at any age. The celebrities lead the way and show how any hair at any age can be glamorous.

Natural color, white or grey, seem to be a trend based on convenience and cost but mostly on a desire by women to embrace their age and to inspire new beauty standards not all youth-related.

White hair, grey hair, wrinkles…and a woman can still be very attractive and seductive.

Personally, I love my long hair. It allows me a different style every day, even many styles during one day whether I wear it up or down. I love that on certain days, when I am tired, I use my hair as a curtain to hide my neck or some wrinkles.

Long hair for me is a fundamental accessory of seduction, something that makes me feel feminine and attractive. I twist it around my fingers. It is smooth and it feels voluptuous.

What is essential, short, long, colored or not, is to keep your hair healthy.

It means less shampoo (once a week) , more hydratation by using some oil (organ, jojoba, coconut..) before shampooing, less use of hot irons, shorter drying session to privilege air dry and a good alimentation with plenty of proteins and Vit A, E and B.

Avoid dry shampoo as it closes follicules and eventually kill the hair.

Buy a good brush (I use Pearson and Mason and so did my mother: it is expensive but it would last you forever) and I use it every night (100 strokes!). Use a thick comb so as not to pull off your hair.

There aren’t any barriers when it comes to hairstyles for women over 60. Your personal taste should be the most notable factor, and not any age-related aspects.

If you’re comfortable wearing your naturally graying hair, don’t hesitate to do it. All the same, you can consider dyeing it in any color you desire.

Feeling as young and fabulous as ever even if you are over 60? Allow your locks to flow down your back darling!

Let your true colors show and leave your hair long or short if that’s what you feel represent you best.
